US police have arrested a female suspect following the death of Super Bowl reporter Adan Manzano.

Manzano, 27, worked as a reporter and sports anchor for Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports.

He was born in Mexico City before earning a degree at the University of Kansas and moving to the city of Topeka in 2018.

He had travelled to New Orleans to cover the Super Bowl between Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, which takes place on Sunday night.

The television station confirmed that Manzano had passed away on Wednesday, February 5.

The statement read: "We are sorry to share that Adan Manzano, reporter and sports anchor for Telemundo Kansas City, passed away yesterday in New Orleans while on assignment to cover the Super Bowl for Telemundo KC and Tico Sports.

"Adan was a true professional and a rising star, who exemplified excellence in his work. We will deeply miss Adan and his passion for sports, and the contributions he made to the local community.

"Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time."

Manzano was found unresponsive in his hotel room on Wednesday afternoon, with a cause of death not yet determined. Authorities state that there were no signs of obvious trauma to Manzano's body.

Since then, on Thursday evening, police in Kenner, Louisiana have arrested a female suspect.

In a press conference, Kenner Police have stated that the suspect - who has not been charged in connection with the reporter's death - was allegedly found using Manzano's credit card at several stores in the New Orleans area after it was found to be missing.

They add that investigators examined hotel security footage, which allegedly shows the woman accompanying Manzano to his room on the morning of February 5, before she then left the room 'a short time later'. She then came back before leaving left the room again, it is claimed.

This led to the police identifying Danette Colbert, a resident of Louisiana, as a suspect, and she was arrested after search and arrest warrants were issued for Colbert and her residence. She was subsequently taken into custody and processed as a fugitive.

She has been charged with property crimes, such as bank fraud, computer fraud, illegal transmission of monetary funds, access device fraud and purse snatching, it is stated. The investigation is still ongoing, with authorities awaiting the results of a toxicology report.

Police added that the 48-year-old has previously been arrested on allegations of two instances of drugging men, access device fraud, theft of currency and fraudulent use of credit and debit cards, among other alleged financial crimes.

She was also arrested on suspicion of driving 97mph in a Las Vegas school zone in 2022, according to an arrest report.
