NFL draft prospect Kyren Lacy has died at the age of 24 following a police car chase.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office has stated that Lacy was found dead after crashing his car during a pursuit.

They add that police in the area spotted Lacy's car and attempted to pull him over, but the NFL prospect drove off.

Authorities believe that Lacy's death was an apparent suicide.

The 24-year-old had declared for this season's NFL draft, having starred as part of the LSU college football team in 2024.

A wide receiver, Lacy led his team in receiving touchdowns last season.

In a statement following his death, LSU said: "We're saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU football student-athlete Kyren Lacy.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as his former team-mates and coaches impacted by his passing."

Lacy was due to appear in front of a grand jury on Monday in connection with a fatal crash in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, in December, local outlet WBRZ report.

The NFL prospect was charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle.

It was alleged that he was driving recklessly, including speeding and passing in a no-passing zone, when a motorist swerved to avoid his car and crashed head-on into another vehicle.

The motorist later died after being transported to hospital, a police report stated.

Lacy turned himself into police the following month and was released on bail.

His attorney, Matthew Ory, told ESPN that he was 'very confident the evidence, after being fully collected and reviewed, would lead to a declination of charges', and added that he would demand a 'full and transparent review' into how and why the investigation into the 24-year-old took place.

He added: "First and foremost, we ask that the public and the media give his family the space and time they need to grieve this unimaginable loss in peace."
