Joe Rogan was left visibly stunned when he learned just how much money a professional gambler had put on the outcome of the Super Bowl after it ran into millions of dollars.

Hundreds of millions of NFL fans around the world will tune in to watch Super Bowl LIX which will be contested by the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

The encounter, which will be taking place at the Caesars Superdrome in New Orleans, begins at 6.30pm local time and means British NFL fans can watch the action unfold from 11.30pm on this side of the Atlantic Ocean to discover which side ends up on top.

This year's encounter is a direct rematch of Super Bowl LVII in 2022 which the Chiefs emerged victorious from and it will see them aim to win their third NFL Super Bowl title on the bounce.

The Chiefs - which include pop star Taylor Swift's boyfriend Travis Kelce - beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 last year and emerged on top against the Eagles 38-35 the season before.

The Chiefs are the favourites with the bookmakers to win the Super Bowl once again, and many people around the world will no doubt be having a flutter on which side they think will triumph in the hours to come.

Some big money can be won from betting on live sport and one Super Bowl betting story in particular illustrates just how lucrative it can be.

Super Bowl XLIV saw the New Orleans Saints take on the Indianapolis Colts at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, back in 2010.

On that occasion, the underdog Saints won with a score of 31-17 against the Colts to earn the New Orleans side its first ever Super Bowl title.

Last year, UFC color commentator Rogan spoke to gambling expert Bill Walters on his podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience.

Walters described to Rogan how the biggest bet he has ever placed - which ran into multiple millions of dollars - and it was on that edition of the Super Bowl.

Walters bet an astronomical figure of $4.5m on the Saints to beat the Colts, which ultimately paid off and left Rogan visibly stunned.

Walters said: "I bet $4.5 million on New Orleans (Saints) to beat the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl, that's the biggest bet I ever placed."

Rogan replied: "Did you win?"

Walters responded: "I did, I got lucky on that one."

And a stunned Rogan simply said: "You got lucky on that one?!"
