Neymar is officially no longer a Barcelona player.

News has broken in the last few minutes, confirming that the Brazilian forward's contract at the Camp Nou has been terminated following Paris Saint-Germain's payment of 222 million euros to Barcelona for the 25-year-old's services.

The triggering of Neymar's release clause means the former Santos star will now become the world's most expensive footballer, with the deal eclipsing the £89 million move that saw Paul Pogba return to Manchester United from Juventus, last summer.

Neymar arrived at the Camp Nou in 2013 from Santos in a deal that has been riddled with controversy ever since, with the Spanish courts becoming involved due to the questionable, possibly illegal nature of some of the payments involved.

Now, the former Brazil captain will move to the French capital, pocketing a reported £500,000+ a week in a deal worth a total of £450 million when transfer fee, bonuses, wages and various other add ons are all figured in.

The move is being seen by many as a step back for Neymar, who will leave behind the MSN, a trio of South American goal scoring machines Barcelona put together alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. The trio helped fire Barca to back-to-back La Liga titles, three consecutive Copa Del Reys and the 2015 Champions League.

PSG will be hoping their record breaking outlay will bring them similar rewards.
