Wayne Rooney's first return to Old Trafford as an Everton player didn't go exactly as planned, this afternoon, with the former Manchester United captain missing a couple of excellent chances to equalise for the Toffees before seeing his team lose 4-0.
At 1-0 down, Rooney flashed an effort wide of David De Gea's far post and then, in the second half, missed an even better opportunity, when presented with a one-on-one against David De Gea, but the Spanish goalkeeper came out on top, frustrating United's all time leading goal scorer.
Rooney would later be substituted with the Toffees pressing for an equaliser, only for an Ashley Williams mistake to present Henrikh Mkhitaryan with United's second, before Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial added a third and fourth to put a rather flattering spin on the final scoreline.

The tweet has, at the time of writing, generated almost 15,000 retweets in a little under an hour and has also, unsurprisingly, generated a ton of replies:

Despite suffering another heavy defeat, hot on the heels of back-to-back 3-0 losses to Tottenham and Atalanta, today's result really didn't reflect the entire game and what was a promising performance by Everton, albeit one marred by some costly mistakes.
