Michael Owen is regularly rinsed for the many opinions he has on football, but the BT Sport pundit still very much active in giving his thoughts on all the latest topics in the football world.

The 2001 Ballon d'Or winner, who turned out for England in the Star Sixes tournament at the O2 Arena, spoke to The Mirror and made his choice for who has been the best signing of the transfer window.

The 37-year old identified Liverpool's reported £36.9 million signing Mohamed Salah as the most impressive bit of business so far, and believes the Egyptian will be a real asset to the Reds in his second stint in English football.

Salah scored on his Liverpool debut in a friendly win over Wigan Athletic:

"I think Salah is a really good signing, he didn't quite nail it at Chelsea, but he was young at the time," he said to The Mirror.

"He's gone away, he had a good time at Roma, he's got outstanding pace and if you're an attacking player with loads of pace then you're valuable.

"I think Liverpool are now looking like a team with a real potent attack.

"They needed to bolster the squad for Champions League football, a higher standard of games, so I think it's important that they did that."

Salah has been on Liverpool's radar for a while now and though they were close to bringing him to Anfield in 2014, Jose Mourinho and Chelsea won the race for his signature.

His first venture into English football did not work out, with Salah failing to become a regular at Stamford Bridge after his big move.

He was given a new lease of life in Italy though, joining Fiorentina and Roma on loan, before joining the latter permanently in a £16 million switch.

Last season, Salah scored 15 goals and contributed further with 13 assists in 31 league appearances as Roma finished second to Juventus in Serie A.

That promoted Liverpool to give him a second crack at the Premier League, and Anfield faithfuls will be hoping his devastating pace can be a wholly useful weapon in attack next season.
