Steph Curry Made LA Lakers Star Retire After Performance Against Him

The Golden State Warriors guard is one of the greatest players ever in the NBA

Steph Curry once made a Los Angeles Lakers star retire, as the Golden State Warriors aim to bounce back from a surprise 114-109 defeat to the Indiana Pacers in the NBA.

Despite losing their first five games of the season, the Pacers narrowly edged past the Warriors, who were once again spearheaded by Curry.

The 37-year-old played 29 minutes and scored a team-high 24 points, but it was not enough to carry his side to victory.

Curry is approaching the end of an illustrious basketball career that has seen him win four championships, and two MVP awards.

Although he has assured fans he has no plans to retire soon, questions remains over what will happen when his Warriors contract expires in 2027.

If he feels unable to perform at the highest level, Curry may decide to call time on his career, which is how he once made Steve Nash feel.

Speaking on the Mind the Game podcast, Nash revealed to LeBron James and Curry himself that the Warriors star played a key role in pushing him towards retirement.

He said: "You deserve a little bit of putting me out to pasture, a little bit of my retirement. It's not something I like to talk about in public a lot.

"When he came into the league, I still felt like the big brother a little bit, I still feel like I've got the upper hand here.

"Then he started becoming who he is and the pendulum shifted."

Nash was drafted in 1996 by the Phoenix Suns, and went on to play for the Dallas Mavericks and the Lakers.

Although he never won a championship during his 18 years in the NBA, he was an eight-time All-Star and a two-time MVP.

However, by the time he joined the Lakers in 2012, injuries had begun to take their toll.

Nash recalled one particular preseason game against the Warriors as the moment he realised his body could no longer cope.

"I'm guarding Steph," Nash said.

"I think they put up like 50 in the first quarter, maybe it was 45, but it felt like a 50 piece.

"He's running everywhere, I'm like back is broke, everything's jacked. I couldn't have stopped him if I was 100% and I'm dragging around.

Although Curry has no plans to retire yet, very few players have enjoyed the longevity of James, who continues to play at 40 years old.

The Lakers legend opted into his contract for this season, but it could well be his last.

James is currently side-lined with a sciatica injury and is hoping to return to the court by the end of November.
