NBA icon Magic Johnson has brutally responded to Anthony Edwards' claim about Michael Jordan.

Johnson is widely regarded as of one of the best players to compete in the NBA alongside the likes of LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Jordan.

Having won the league Most Valuable Player award three times in four years and winning five of the eight NBA finals he competed in, Johnson is seen to be the best point guard in the history of the sport.

And now, he has hit back against current NBA player Edwards, who made a bold claim about the era of the NBA legend Jordan played in.

While speaking to The Wall Street Journal, Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Edwards suggested that the NBA has more skilled athletes competing in it now than it did in the past, with Jordan the only player he believes showcased any skill.

He said: "I didn't watch it back in the day so I can't speak on it.

"They say it was tougher back then than it is now, but I don't think anybody had skill back then. [Jordan] was the only one that really had skill, you know what I mean?"

Given Johnson's achievements in the years prior to Jordan's greatness with the Chicago Bulls, it is understandable that such a comment would frustrate him.

While speaking to ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, Johnson was asked to respond to Edwards, and the Los Angeles Lakers star didn't hold back.

Reacting to Edwards' claim, the 65-year-old said: "I never respond to a guy that’s never won a championship.

“There’s not nothing to really say. He didn't win a college championship. I don't even know if he won a high school championship."

Unlike the highly decorated Johnson, who remains the NBA's all-time leader in average assists per game, Edwards is yet to win a championship after four seasons playing for the Timberwolves.

And, while the Georgian collegian has twice been named an All-Star, he is yet to make it to an NBA Finals.

That being said, the 23-year-old is still highly regarded and recently claimed a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games while competing with the Team USA basketball team.
