Four NBA teams have been named as potential destinations for LeBron James in the off season when he will become a free agent.

The 41-year-old is one of the NBA's most legendary figures of all time after beginning his playing days back in 2003, but is now at a crossroads in his basketball career and his possible next step.

James has become an NBA Champion a total of four times across his career which has seen him represent the Cleveland Cavaliers across two spells, Miami Heat and currently the Los Angeles Lakers.

He has also been the NBA's Most Valuable Player on a quartet of occasions, with four NBA Finals MVP accolades to his illustrious name.

James has also tasted success three times at the Olympics as part of the US basketball team, winning a gold medal at Beijing 2008, London 2012 and most recently at Paris 2024.

However, his career is at a key crossroads as James is currently set to become a free agent in the NBA off season when his current contract with the Lakers comes to an end.

James has made $52.6m this season and will turn 42 by the time he competes in the next NBA campaign, if indeed that does happen, amid the prospect of him choosing to retire in the off season.

James last became a free agent back in 2018 when he left the Cleveland Cavaliers for the second time and joined the Lakers.

Now it has been reported that a possible third spell with the Cavaliers - his hometown team - is potentially on the cards.

According to Lakers Daily, the Cavaliers, the Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors are the four NBA franchises which are interested in signing James in the off season.

Of course, if the Lakers are successful in securing his signature, then James would extend his time there and is seen to be the more likely option if he continues playing.

The report states: "The Lakers have made it known, both publicly and privately, that they would love for James to retire from the NBA with them.

"If James doesn’t retire this offseason, returning to the Purple and Gold will most likely happen due to the NBA legend’s close relationship with Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves and JJ Redick, sources said. Bronny James, LeBron’s son, is also on the team.

"However, the Warriors, Mavericks and Cavaliers will be serious threats. After all, James is close with Warriors stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green and Mavericks stars Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving and is from Akron, Ohio. The Cavaliers are James’ hometown team."
