The Macaulay Culkin Christmas classic has a scene including the basketball GOAT.

Home Alone is one of the most beloved films for the festive period and will no doubt be watched by plenty over the coming days - but one eagle-eyed fan has spotted a continuity error in the movie including basketball GOAT Michael Jordan.

The 1990 Christmas comedy stars a young Macaulay Culkin playing Kevin McCallister who is left on his own by his family by mistake and the eight-year-old has to defend his home in Chicago from two robbers over Christmas.

The movie cost $18m to make and ended up grossing nearly $480m at the box office as it became a hit and a firm favourite for families around the festive period.

Though NBA GOAT Jordan does not appear in the film in person unlike the 1996 classic Space Jam, a poster of himself features in one of the movie's memorable scenes.

Jordan, 62, has been retired for more than 20 years but his appeal lives on thanks to his extraordinary career, much of which was spent with the Chicago Bulls, then latterly with the Washington Wizards in the closing stages.

The six-time NBA Champion enjoyed a memorable spell with the Bulls as he was crowned the MVP in the NBA Finals a total of six times.

He was also named the NBA's Most Valuable Player overall on five instances and is seen by many as basketball's GOAT.

In the film, a cardboard version of Jordan in his heyday with the white Bulls jersey on features in Home Alone in a couple of different scenes.

In one scene, Culkin's character Kevin cuts out the poster of Jordan which is in his older brother Buzz's bedroom, and uses it as a cut-out at night to move it around and make it look like an adult was in the home to the robbers in a bid to dissuade them.

And in another, the Jordan poster which had previously been used as a cut-out is spotted again, when one of the robbers Marv attempts to hit a tarantula which is on fellow accomplice Harry's chest, but misses and instead knocks him out.

And taking to social media, one fan has raised the continuity error, but also offered an explanation and suggested a theory that both Kevin and his brother Buzz had posters of Jordan.

The fan said: "I'm sure this has been discovered already and probably listed as a continuity error in IMDB, but just noticed that the full Michael Jordan poster is hung up when the spider crawls on Harry. Unless Kevin and his brother both had one."

Michael Jordan's current NBA rule

Jordan dominated with the Bulls and was central to two three-peats.

He retired twice in 1993 and 1999 with the Bulls before making a return in 2001, playing for the Washington Wizards for two seasons and finally hanging up his sneakers at the end of 2002/03 aged 41 after averaging 20 points per game.

He continued to be involved in the NBA as the majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, selling his controlling stake for around $3 billion in 2023.

In May, it was confirmed that Jordan, inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009, had signed a deal to become a special contributor with NBC as part of their NBA coverage.

The role sees Jordan contribute with opinions on various topics through a number of pre-taped segments which have been cut from a single, long sit-down interview with Mike Tirico.
