Ariel Helwani has shared his thoughts on Conor McGregor's 18-month ban, revealing the 'wild' thing about his suspension.
McGregor accepted an 18-month ban after he violated the UFC's anti-doping rules.
He missed three attempted biological sample collections within a 12-month period in 2024, according to Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD).
McGregor, who was forced to withdraw from his scheduled clash against Michael Chandler at UFC 303, missed tests on June 13, September 19 and September 20 last year.

His period of ineligibility began on September 20, 2024, and will conclude on March 20, 2026.
Khabib Nurmagomedov reacted to McGregor's suspension with a subtle dig on social media.
Helwani also commented on the Irishman's ban as he took exception to one aspect of CSAD's verdict.
He referenced UFC athletes, including McGregor, being independent contractors, which fighters are classified - a designation Dana White has defended.

Helwani, however, believes it's 'wild' that UFC fighters as independent contractors have to inform the promotion of their whereabouts 24/7.
He goes onto say it's a 'damn strict' rule before suggesting McGregor's suspension is 'performative' and 'convenient' given his ban will be lifted in time for him to return on the proposed White House card, which is set to take place in June.
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, the veteran reporter explained: "I just think that’s wild. As an independent contractor, having to tell your promotion 24/7, 365, where you are. They also tell you what to wear when you compete for them.

"That’s pretty damn strict... I have a problem with that. I don't think anyone should have to tell their employer where they are 24/7, 365."

On whether it will affect McGregor's UFC comeback, Helwani added: "It doesn't affect his involvement on the White House card or any sort of return past March 21."
The 'Notorious' has been drug tested this year and has not returned any positive results as he eyes his UFC return.

He hasn't fought since his crushing first-round defeat to Dustin Poirier back in July 2021.
A bout against Chandler was scheduled until he pulled out.
