Joe Rogan was left stunned when he inadvertently put a podcast guest's life in danger with one question he refused to answer.

Rogan is known for his UFC commentating duties and his hugely-popular podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience.

He commentated on UFC 319 earlier this month, where Khamzat Chimaev dominated Dricus Du Plessis to be crowned the new UFC middleweight champion.

Rogan won't be calling UFC fights until October 4 when Magomed Ankalaev and Mereb Dvalishvili defend their respective UFC titles against Alex Pereira and Cory Sandhagen respectively.

But the 58-year-old will keep himself busy with his podcast.

His podcast still tops Spotify's charts, with Rogan delving into a wide range of topics, including magic mushrooms.

And when he had Paul Stamets, an American mycologist and entrepreneur who sells various mushroom products through his company, on his podcast, Rogan was keen to get an insight into fungi.

Stamets has his own mushroom company 'Fungi Perfecti', with the website stating that the brand is 'synonymous with cutting-edge mycological research and solutions'.

Given his knowledge in the field, Rogan wanted to pick his brain.

But Stamets refused to answer one question that was put forward by Rogan, who asked: "What are the benefits or the negative effects of this?"

Stamets, however, claimed an answer would 'put his life in danger' so he didn't give him a verdict.

"This is an explosive area of conversation and puts my life in danger, so reserve the right not to answer a question," he replied.

In response, Rogan, who was in shock, said: "Whoa didn’t expect that. It puts your life in danger talking about portobello mushrooms? He’s looking at me silently. I will respectfully move on."

In another episode of his podcast, Rogan told scientist Lex Fridman that he used mushrooms and shared his thoughts on them.

"I used mushrooms," he revealed. "That was one way I did it. I took less than a gram every day and I did a lot of really hard working out.

"There’s a great benefit to go through anything difficult and trouble," he added. "It gives you an opportunity to grow and express yourself under pressure, to show your true character and how you deal with a difficult situation."
