Colby Covington becomes UFC's most hated man after 'threatening to kill' popular commentator Jon Anik

Colby Covington’s trash talk may have gone a step too far this time.

The recently returned UFC star has become public enemy number one in the MMA community after sounding off on popular commentator Jon Anik.

It all kicked off after Jon Anik was sympathetic toward Covington’s rival Belal Muhammad.

The broadcaster had voiced his opinion that the #4 ranked welterweight should’ve been the backup fighter ahead of the American for the UFC 286 main event.

And boy did that rile Covington up, who claims that Muhammad’s comments about him in the past constitute as ‘racism’.

As for Anik, Covington told MMA Fighting: “You're not talking Belal, you're talking the racist.

“That guy is so beyond racist, like, everything he does is racist, the guy's a freaking joke. He's saying I'm in this position because of my skin colour, because I'm white? That's clear racism."

After claiming Anik was supposed to ‘remain impartial’ he went on to deliver an alarming threat to the UFC commentator.

He said: “Put down the headset, pick up the pom-poms, go on the side, and be a cheerleader... And Jon Anik, dude, I don't want your kids to grow up without a dad, just realize you live in Boca [Raton], I live in Miami motherf***er, you're not too far from me, so you better shut your f***ing mouth.

“You poke the bear, now you get the bear comes after you."

His explosive remarks about the beloved broadcaster have landed him in hot water with a whole lot of the MMA community.

Muhammad responded to the remarks saying: “Jon’s my brother, I promise you he’s getting slapped just for disrespecting family.”

Fellow MMA star Jared Gordon wrote: “Death threats towards Jon Anik and his children. No wonder Masvidal got him in public. These aren't fighting words these are I kill you words. Clearly, Colby has never been locked up or in the streets much…”

Severe MMA Podcast host Sean Sheehan said: “He threatened to kill Jon Anik. Straight up. Is there any other profession that keeping your job would even be a question? I couldn't give two f**ks about his fake politics gimmick, but this is too far.”

UFC veteran Brandon Schaub commented: “I don't get why he's threatening Jon's life. Sell the fights, yeah, but don't go after commentators. That's lame."

It comes after Belal claimed that Colby turned down a fight with him on the UFC 286 card so ‘he can weigh in and not have to fight’.

Dana White has put forward Covington’s name to be the next challenger to Leon Edwards’ welterweight championship.

But perhaps a battle with Muhammad should be next.
