Fans are staggered by Grand National drinks prices at Aintree races

The Grand National takes place this weekend but anyone attending won't be having a cheap day out.

The Grand National kicks off this week but anyone attending the horse racing extravaganza will not be getting a cheap experience.

The three-day festival commences with Liverpool Day on Thursday, following into Ladies Day on Friday and then the main event, the Grand National, on Saturday afternoon at exactly 17:15 pm.

It all goes down at Aintree and as we know, drinks at any of these big events never tend to be great value. And the 2023 list of prices have been disclosed courtesy of The Jockey Club, via the Manchester Evening News.

For starters, you're looking at a ridiculous £7.50 for most pints of draught beer or cider - whether it be Staropramen, Guinness, Madri, Rekorderlig or Pravha.

Carling, however, is priced at £7.20 and when it comes to canned or bottled drinks, we're talking £6.50 for the likes of Madri and others.

Prosecco starts at £46.00 a bottle, an increase from last year's £42.50. Glasses of wine cost £8.75, with the full bottle setting customers back £34.00

If you're into your spirits, it's £6.00 for all the popular choices but soft drink mixers are now £2.50 - a 30p increase on the 2022 prices.

Bottles of champagne start at £78 for anyone feeling a bit boujiee.

And finally, canned soft drinks alone are £2.90 - a lot dearer than what you would pay at your local corner shop.

"Rip Off As Usual," one fan wrote on social media.

Another simply described the price list as "Greed".

A third weighed in: "Shameful prices, massive crowds, captive audience, I wouldn’t pay it."

A fourth user added: "Almost catching up wither cinema confectionary!"
