The countdown is officially on for the Scottish Open, and there are important travel and parking warnings to be aware of if you're planning to visit.

For the seventh year in a row, the Genesis Scottish Open will take place at the Renaissance Club, near Dirleton.

It's predicted that thousands of golf fans will be heading to East Lothian to watch the tournament.

The event will run from Wednesday July 9 to Sunday July 13, and East Lothian Council has put traffic restrictions in place to try and control the influx of visitors.

The event is part of the Rolex Series on the DP World Tour and is seen as one of the highlights of the golfing calendar.

The likes of Justin Rose, Phil Mickelson, Min Woo Lee, Rickie Fowler, Bernd Wiesberger, and Xander Schauffele have all come out on top in previous years.

If you've never been before, there's always a first time.

What is the traffic warning for the Scottish Open?

Drivers are being warned that there will be changes to parking, waiting, loading and unloading restrictions in Aberlady, Longniddry and Dirleton around the event.

The restrictions begin at 6am on Wednesday and run until 11pm on Sunday.

There will also be temporary speed limits imposed on neighbouring roads, with visitors being urged to use public transport where possible (there'll be a free bus service operating between Longniddry Railway Station and the event public car park).

Traffic will be also be directed from the A1 at Haddington, eastbound at the Ballencrieff Roundabout, to the A1377 via Drem.

This plan means most traffic will be sent away from the A198 coast road.
