A Ryder Cup host has been forced to step down from her role after she apologised to Rory McIlroy following her conduct on day two of the tournament at Bethpage Black.
Day two of the Ryder Cup was eventful to say the least. Team Europe dominated proceedings and ended the day with a seven-point lead over Team USA.
Aside from the talent on show, much of the drama throughout day two came from the supporters in New York.
A hostile US-favouring crowd did not hold back when addressing members of the European team – namely McIlroy and Shane Lowry.

Early in the day, McIlroy appeared to play the pantomime villain by blowing kisses to hecklers. However, the crowd did not relent, and things quickly turned ugly.
Later on day two, McIlroy told the crowd to “shut the f**k up”, before refusing to take a shot until they quietened down.

“I don’t mind them having a go at us,” McIlroy explained. “Like that’s to be expected. I mean, that’s what an away Ryder Cup is.

“Whenever they are still doing it while you are over the ball and trying to hit your shot, that’s the tough thing.”
Meanwhile, Lowry aimed a furious two-word dig at one spectator after holing a putt, before he screamed “come on” then added “f**k you”.
But the drama continued, with the Irishman later being restrained as he tried to address what appeared to be another heckler before pointing out the culprit to security.
The fallout continued after the end of play, with one staff member being forced to step down.
