PGA Tour golfer handed ban on the eve of The Open over disgraceful incident

The Open Championship is set to begin on Thursday.

A PGA Tour golf star has been handed a ban on the eve of The Open over a disgraceful incident.

On Thursday, The Open Championship will get underway at the Dunluce Course within the Royal Portrush Golf Club in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

The likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, John Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood, Xander Schauffele, Tyrrell Hatton and Bryson DeChambeau are all among the favourites to win the tournament.

Ahead of the first day of play in County Antrim, American golfer Wyndham Clark has been handed a ban from Oakmont, which hosted the US Open this year.

As reported by Golf Magic, Clark allegedly damaged two lockers after he missed the cut at the third major of the year.

The aftermath of Clark's actions was shown via pictures that were leaked to the public.

In response, the 31-year-old said: "I'm very sorry for what happened."

However, despite issuing an apology, it has been claimed that Clark has yet to pay for the damage he caused.

According to Golf Digest, via Golf Magic, a letter from Oakmont's president, John Lynch, explained that Clark is now suspended from the property.

It has been suggested that Clark's return will only be facilitated if he meets a number of obligations.

The letter read: "Several of you have inquired about the situation involving Wyndham Clark and the steps being taken in response to his recent behaviour.

"Following multiple discussions with the USGA and the OCC Board, a decision has been made that Mr. Clark will no longer be permitted on OCC property."

It continued: "This decision will remain in effect unless formally reconsidered and approved by the Board.

"Reinstatement would be contingent upon Mr. Clark fulfilling a number of specific conditions, including full repayment for damages, a meaningful contribution to a charity of the Board's choosing, and the successful completion of counselling and/or anger management sessions. Thank you for your understanding and continued support."
