The Open prize money: Here's how much Ryan Fox earned at Royal Birkdale

Ryan Fox's prize money after winning the 2026 Open Championship has been revealed.

After four dramatic days of action at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, Fox was crowned the 2026 Open champion.

The New Zealander finished the weekend with a final score of 10-under-par, just one shot ahead of second-place Cam Young.

Heading into the final day of the competition several big players remained in contention, with reigning champion Scottie Scheffler putting in a late charge but ultimately falling short with a final score of seven-under-par after bogeying the final hole.

Despite major controversy earlier in the weekend that led to him receiving a two-shot penalty, Bryson DeChambeau also stood a chance of winning on Sunday, but a disappointing final round saw the American finish four-under-par while 2026 Masters Champion Rory McIlroy finished just one-under-par.

For 2026, a record $17.75million (£13.3million) was available to the 156 players competing at The Open this weekend, an increase of $750,000 (£560,000) from the 2025 tournament at Royal Portrush.

For winning The Open, Fox will receive a total prize of $3.2m (£2.4m), a $100,000 increase on Scheffler's winnings last year.

All players who finish in the top three were guaranteed to win receive over $1.1m (£820,000) each, with Young winning $1,842,000 (£1,373,800) for his second-place finish while America's Sam Burns earned $1,181,000 (£880,800) for finishing third.

Southport's own Tommy Fleetwood finished tied fourth alongside Scheffler, with the pair taking home $827,500 (£615,539) each.

DeChambeau earned $234,325 (£174,303) with his lacklustre finish seeing him finish tied 14th, meanwhile McIlroy finished tied 40th alongside five other players, meaning the six golfers earned $69,750 (£51,883) each.

Although The Open is offering a record-high amount of prize money this year, the total purse is still the lowest of all majors majors on the 2026 golf calendar.
