Fans think there’s tension between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez after footage from Saudi Arabian Grand Prix emerges

On the back of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, fans feel there is tension brewing behind Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

Last weekend’s race in Jeddah was once again dominated by the reigning constructors’ champions as the Red Bulls were streets ahead of others in the paddock.

Perez started in pole position and won the race whilst Verstappen had to move his way up to second from 15th place after a reliability issue ruined his qualifying.

Footage from the cool-down room after the race has fans believing that tension is brewing between the Red Bull drivers. You can watch the footage below.

In the last race of the lap, Verstappen denied Perez an extra point after ripping the fastest lap point away from his teammate.

Perez was heard asking Verstappen: “Did you get the fastest lap in the end?”

The Dutchman replied: “On the last lap, yeah.”

At this point, the Mexican asked: “Were you not told to keep the pace?”

To which Verstappen explained: “I asked what the fastest lap was, and I think it was a tenth faster than what you were doing.”

Fans were quick to react to the pair’s conversations.

One said: “Anyone else feel a bit of Red Bull tension between the two drivers? Two races in a row now... Vamos for Checo, But Max doesn't look happy for a good team result.”

Another commented: “Just me or is there already visible tension between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez?”

A third fan added: “You can tell they have issues when they are 1 - 2 talking about why max did his own thing.”

Someone else wrote: “Has Perez got it in him to go full Rosberg? Can already see some tension between him and Verstappen. Needs to be selfish, is he going to get another chance to win a championship?”

With that extra point, Verstappen remains in the lead in the driver’s championship with 44 points, whilst Perez is closely behind with 43.

F1 will return with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on 2 April.
