Special Lewis Hamilton privilege uncovered at Ferrari with Leclerc forbidden

Lewis Hamilton has revealed that his Ferrari contract has one special privilege that Charles Leclerc is banned from, as he hopes to check off his remaining Formula 1 bucket list in red.

While many teams have clear favourites and a 'number one driver', Ferrari currently has two high-profile candidates in their ranks, unsure who to favour.

Charles Leclerc is their legacy driver, being promoted from the Ferrari academy in 2019 and operating in his eighth season as their franchise figure.

But having been preferred over Carlos Sainz after earning his number one spot off Sebastian Vettel, the power balance shifted when seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton arrived.

With Hamilton now launching a campaign for his eighth Formula 1 title, it looks like Ferrari will put their stock in the British icon this year. This is, unless he goes wild on the stunts while Charles Leclerc watches from the ground.

Lewis Hamilton reveals dream privilege that Charles Leclerc is banned from

Speaking before the Austrian Grand Prix, Hamilton addressed the Ferrari fans at the Red Bull Ring by complimenting the stunning track.

So much so that he claimed it would be a dream of his to make a grand skydiving entrance to the track one day, something that left Leclerc aghast.

"I would love to skydive here. I think it’s a beautiful place,” said Hamilton.

“I’d love to skydive into the track one day, that’s what I would like to do.”

Leclerc would only be allowed to watch, though, as it seems his contract has a clause to prevent such antics.

"Oh, does Ferrari allow you?” Leclerc asked. Hamilton replied: “Yeah."

They don’t with me! They don’t trust me maybe with a parachute," Leclerc added.

Leclerc has gained a reputation for 'dangerous' driving this season, epitomised by a crash at his home race in Monaco in June.

The Monegasque driver ripped into the Ferrari car as he spun off the track in Monte Carlo, blaming the lack of traction and the 'f***ing brakes' for his crash.

"I've always been very honest and no matter how many mistakes I do, I will hate to look at myself in the mirror and see myself finding excuses when I do make a mistake," he said after the race.

"I touch the brakes and there's just something with those brakes that are - on the front brakes it broke a lot more than I thought and in the rear brakes it had no deceleration at all. It's like I had no rear brakes at all."

Yet Ferrari has been erring on the side of caution with Leclerc, as Brembo and Scuderia Ferrari expressed 'astonishment' at his comments, especially with Hamilton finishing second behind Kimi Antonelli.

It might be Leclerc's edginess that leaves Ferrari wanting to ensure that he doesn't go skydiving, whereas Lewis Hamilton has a reputation for being one of the best that there ever has been when it comes to keeping his car on track, combining bravery and skill with safety.
