Pubs around the country have reportedly been granted a special permission ahead of England vs Spain in the final of the 2025 Women's Euros.

Earlier in the week, the Lionesses survived an almighty scare to knock Italy out of the Euros in Switzerland.

Heading into the 6th minute to added time, Sarina Wiegman's players looked like they were running out of ideas as they trailed Italy 1-0.

However, Michelle Agyemang popped up with another important goal to send the tie into extra time.

In the 119th minute, England were awarded a penalty after Beth Mead was fouled inside the area.

Chloe Kelly saw her effort saved but managed to score the rebound to seal a dramatic 2-1 win.

As a result, England will continue the defence of their European crown in the final on Sunday when they take on world champions Spain in Basel.

Ahead of the crunch match, pubs in the country have reportedly been granted permission to extend their opening hours.

As reported by the Daily Mail, pubs can extend their hours and open until 1am.

According to the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPC), consumers are expected to buy an estimated million extra pints during the final, which could boost the economy by £5 million.

Chief executive Emma McClarkin said: "Our sector plays a huge part in boosting community spirit and championing inclusivity in sport, and we expect the pubs will be packed by those cheering on our fantastic squads."

It has been suggested that the Home Office have the ability to relax pub licensing hours for events that are of 'exceptional national significance'.

England playing in a major final will fall under the category, with Home Secretary Yvette Cooper saying: "I want to wish the best of luck to [manager] Sarina Wiegman and the England squad, who we hope will bring it home once again and continue on as champions of Europe."

Speaking ahead of the final, manager Wiegman said: "Spain is a very good country, they play very good football, but I think we're really good too, so we have our tactical plan ready.

"We have to be at our best. Then if we are at our best we can win and the urgency is there to be our best to make that possible."
