Wolves are reportedly closing in on a sensational swoop for Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati.

Fatu became the second-youngest player to play for the club in 2019 at the age of 16 years and 298 days and would eventually inherit the iconic No.10 shirt from Lionel Messi after he left for Barcelona on a free transfer.

But Fati spent nine months on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury and has been plagued by problems ever since.

The Spain international has struggled to nail down a starting spot for the La Liga champions elect, with just 11 of his 31 appearances in the league coming from the start.

Barca are prepared to let the 20-year-old move on in the summer transfer window and SPORT say they have "given the OK" to an offer from Wolves.

The Midlands outfit are prepared to pay £26 million and include captain Ruben Neves in a deal, a proposal which is "highly regarded" by the Blaugrana.

Fati is represented by super agent Jorge Mendes, who has been heavily involved with Wolves' transfer dealings and has a slew of clients at the Molineux club.

Mendes had hoped to bring Fati to a top six club like Manchester United, Liverpool, Newcastle, Chelsea or Arsenal but no negotiations have proven successful.

Instead, the Portuguese is now trying to convince Fatu and his entourage that a move to Wolves would be beneficial.

The ideal scenario is that he would go there for two seasons and play regularly and hopefully earn a move to one of the Premier League's big dogs.

He would prefer to stay at Barca and is due to sit down with Xavi and discuss his situation, with the club keen to resolve things in the coming weeks.

Barca have been the best team in La Liga by some distance this season and are now just one win away from lifting the title.
