Former Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati announces shock new career update that nobody saw coming

Ansu Fati was destined for greatness after being compared to Lionel Messi but his career has not gone to plan.

In an alternative universe, Ansu Fati would be one of Spain's main men at the 2026 World Cup in the North America.

La Roja's hopes largely rest on the shoulders of 18-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal, who was instrumental in their Euro 2024 win two years ago.

But before Yamal came along, there was another elite Spanish talent who came through Barcelona's famed La Masia academy.

Fati, who joined the Blaugrana from Sevilla aged 10, became the club's youngest goalscorer aged 16 years and 304 days and then the youngest player to score in the Champions League aged 17 years and 40 days.

Fati's Champions League record remains, with Yamal achieving the feat at the same age but 28 days older.

He was tipped to be the heir to Lionel Messi's throne, with Messi even stating that the exciting prospect "has everything to be a great player”.

When Messi left for Paris Saint-Germain, Fati inherited his iconic No.10 shirt but regular injuries impacted him and he ended spending the 2023/24 season on loan in the Premier League with Brighton.

Fati struggled for minutes under Hansi Flick upon his return to Barca and he ended up spending last season on loan at Monaco, where he performed well and scored 12 goals in 30 appearances as they finished seventh in Ligue One.

But instead of being at his second World Cup with Spain, Fati has been on social media promoting his new venture.

On TikTok, Fati announced that his new music single is dropping soon as he shared a snippet of the debut track 'Sea como sea' with his 2.2 million followers.

The clip racked up more than three million views as well as nearly 450,000 likes. But of the 5,000 comments, so many focused on the fact that they did not expect Fati's career to have moved in this direction aged just 23.

One user wrote: "How do I explain to my kids that this was supposed to be the next Messi?"

A second said: "Wonder Kid to Wizkid".

A third added: "Future Ballon d'Or winner now looking for Grammy."

Another person simply commented: "Football is a cruel sport".

Fatu's meniscus tear back in 2020 put him on the shelf for nine months and unfortunately led to a number of muscle injuries involving his hamstring and calf.

Ansu Fati out in the cold for Spain as new career move announced

Nevertheless, he was still selected at the 2022 World Cup - playing two games as a substitute for Luis Enrique.

But Fati has not featured for Spain in nearly three years, his 10th and most recent cap coming in October 2023 in a 1-0 win against Norway.

However he has a passion for music and has a global distribution contract with Music Brokers, part of Sony Music.

On Spotify, where his track is now live, Fati has just over 200 followers.

Fati spent time in the studio in Nice with former Manchester United and France midfielder Paul Pogba after training, with producer Gambinoalaprod also involved.

His music style is said to a combination of Afrobeats Latino, Reggaeton and Amapiano.

In term of his football career, Fati is expected to sign for Monaco permanently as they are set to take up their €11 million buy option.
