Wilfried Zaha scores with brilliant finish against Liverpool

Crystal Palace took the lead despite being under the cosh from Liverpool for much of the first half at Anfield on Monday night.

Liverpool were undone by a perfect counter attack from Crystal Palace, as the visiting team struck first in the game on Monday night.

The Reds' start to the latest Premier League campaign did not go according to plan on the opening weekend, as they were held to a 2-2 draw by newly promoted Fulham.

There was at least the excitement of Darwin Nunez's performance off the bench against the Cottagers to get fans of Jurgen Klopp's side excited.

That excitement was lifted on Monday as he was named in the starting line up for the club's first home game of the season, with the Anfield faithful given their first glimpse.

The Reds started the better of the two sides, and certainly looked most likely to take the lead, with James Milner and Nunez missing their best chances.

However, just past the half hour mark it was actually the visitors who took the lead, with Eberechi Eze's brilliant touch, skill and pass setting Wilfried Zaha away on the counter.

The forward ran past the Liverpool defence and placed his shot perfectly past Alisson Becker and into the far corner.

The goal was certainly against the run of play, but it definitely boosted Patrick Vieira's side and they had their best period of the game.

Zaha may have had a second of the game just minutes after, after once again getting in behind the defence, but his touch was too heavy and Alisson was able to get off his line and smother the chance.

Nunez then nearly levelled things up himself just as the half time break loomed, with the Uruguayan clipping a shot against the right post, with Palace scrambling things away.

Klopp's side ended the half having had 17 shots to their opponents four but were still behind as the ref blew for the break.

It's been far from the perfect start to the season, although the next 45 minutes is likely to see Liverpool turn things around against Palace.

Last week, former Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur defender William Gallas claimed that the Reds wouldn't even finish in the top four this season!
