The Uruguayan rising star Darwin Núñez has signed for Liverpool with Benfica confirming that they have reached an agreement with the reds.

Benfica have confirmed the terms of Darwin Nunez's transfer to Liverpool, announcing that the striker will move for an initial €75m (£64.2m) and that the fee could reach €100m with add-ons.This signing will smash their previous transfer record, making the 22 year old the most expensive player in the club’s history, surpassing Virgil van Dijk.

Darwin Nunez's Shirt Number Confirmed

It has been confirmed thar Darwin Nunez will wear the No.27 shirt for Liverpool, replacing Belgian forward Divock Origi, who is leaving Liverpool this summer.

Shirt Numbers Throughout Núñez’s Career:

With Núñez arriving under such an immense cost, there will be a massive amount of pressure on the youngster. Having Origi's shirt will also benefit Liverpool financially as the shirt sales they will generate off of a new high-profile signing are more likely to increase when Núñez is given a well respected squad number.

Now let's have a look at the shirt numbers the Uruguayan striker has donned in his career so far:

During these past couple of seasons at Benfica, Núñez has worn the No.9 shirt, a number that is typically given to a high calibre centre forward such as himself. He proved himself as one of Europe's deadliest forwards last season, putting away 34 goals in all competitions, including scoring against Liverpool twice in their Champions League matches. However, even though he may have deserved this shirt it was difficult taking it from Roberto Firmino who is a fan favourite at Anfield and still has one more year left on his contract.

Another squad number that is becoming synonymous with the young centre forward is the No.11 that he wears internationally for Uruguay. However this No.11 shirt was never really in question as it is currently taken by the world renowned winger Mohamed Salah.
