Premier League Rivals Eye Audacious Move For Luke Shaw

Premier League Rivals Eye Audacious Move For Luke Shaw

Left back Shaw is the invisible man at Old Trafford and could move on in the summer

Manchester United fought hard to capture the signing of Luke Shaw in the summer of 2014 and the thought was he could be their left back for the next 12 years but things haven't gone according to plan. However he could still be a top four player next season.

Shaw impressed as a young left back for Southampton and aged just 19 was in the middle of a bit of a transfer tussle between United and Chelsea, eventually moving to Old Trafford for roughly £30 million, making him the most expensive teenager in football.

His first season was beset by a ridiculous amount of injuries but his second season under Louis van Gaal started very promisingly until a hideous leg break against PSV that ended his season in September.

It was hoped that he would rediscover his form when he returned but under Jose Mourinho he has played just 527 minutes in the Premier League and despite having no regular left-back he seems unlikely to return to first team action.

He looks likely to leave United in the summer and according to the Mirror he could be part of a two part transfer saga. The paper are reporting that Spurs will move for the 21 year old if Manchester City buy Danny Rose from them.

United have used right back Matteo Darmian, centre back Marcos Rojo and utility player Daley Blind at left back this season rather than play Shaw, despite the fact that none of them have shone in the position.

Rose has long been linked with a move to City and Pep Guardiola certainly wants to strengthen his defence in the summer and the Tottenham man would be an obvious, albeit expensive, choice.

Will Shaw have to join our list of Manchester United flops?

Shaw has worked with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton and the reunion with his former manager and the potential to play in the Champions League as a first choice player would be too much to turn down.

Whether United would allow a move that would essentially strengthen not just one but two rivals remains to be seen and United themselves will be in need of a left back if Shaw can't break through.

It's a desperate shame for the player but hopefully he can bounce back and live up to his promise!
