How do you replace Cristiano Ronaldo? The answer so far from Real Madrid is simply that you don't. Following the UEFA Super Cup loss to Atletico Madrid, president Florentino Perez might change his mind on that one.

At the back end of last season there were plenty of rumours that Real Madrid were going to change up their forward line. Despite winning a third Champions League title in a row they fell behind Barcelona in the league, that seemed like it would be the catalyst for change.

Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema's futures were being questioned as Neymar and Eden Hazard were expected to move to the Bernabeu.

Instead though it was Cristiano Ronaldo who moved to Juventus leaving only the BB left out of Real's famous attacking trio in another twist neither Neymar or Hazard were seriously chased, in fact no one was really.

So Real look set to start the season with same outfield 10 they had last season just without Ronaldo as basically happened in the UEFA Super Cup. However the 4-2 loss might mean a rethink.

According to SPORT the loss to Atleti has led Los Blancos president Florentino Perez to consider a move for a forward. The Spanish newspaper say Mauro Icardi, Rodrigo and Timo Werner are their three candidates.

The newspaper also says that Neymar is still a potential target for the Champions League champions this summer, and that Perez is willing to spend €300 million on him, but it'll only happen if FIFA force PSG to sell a player to meet FFP.

Outside of Neymar though SPORT say that Perez is willing to spend €50 million on a forward but Valencia wouldn't let Rodrigo go for less than €80 million and either of the other two would likely cost more too.

Another problem with signing Icardi is the fact the Italian transfer window has now closed, as well at the English window, so Inter couldn't sign a replacement.

Julen Lopetegui has reportedly also asked Perez to sign a centre back and left back for his squad having only added a goalkeeper and a right back so far this summer.

No one can actually replace Ronaldo but will Real even try?
