In the grand scheme of things Real Madrid's loss to Barcelona on Wednesday might not have had a huge impact on their season but it will impact six of their biggest names, who could now be sold.
Most clubs define their season on their domestic league. Whilst it's always nice to win a cup, or go on a run, most teams are at very least initially concentrating on the league.
Real Madrid are a bit of a law unto themselves. Managers have been sacked for winning La Liga just because their Champions League form hasn't been great, such is the affinity between Los Blancos and the competition they've won 13 times, far more than anyone else.
First the obsession was La Decima, then three in a row and now Santiago Solari is trying to lead the Bernabeu side to a fourth win in a row, something that's only been done by them when they won the first five editions of the European Cup.

With all that in mind, whilst they'd have wanted to win the Copa del Rey, their elimination from the Spanish Cup by Barcelona on Wednesday wasn't the be all and end all of their season.
However the 3-0 loss could impact their future, or more specifically the future of six of their stars. According to Don Balon the loss left club president Florentino Perez so angry that he decided to sell six players he's unhappy with, with Isco, Keylor Navas, Toni Kroos, Dani Carvajal, Casemiro and Marcelo now up for sale.
The report says that Isco, who has had trouble getting into the team under Santiago Solari, and Navas, who was replaced as number one goalkeeper by Thibaut Courtois in the summer, were already going to be sold.

Marcelo has been so heavily linked with Juventus, and a reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo, that Los Blancos had already started looking for his replacement.
Kroos, Casemiro and Carvajal are all first team regulars and started against Barcelona but clearly their performances have done something to provoke a reaction from Perez, the inventor of the Galacticos.
The Champions League holders were already expected to spend big in the summer, having failed to replace Cristiano Ronaldo last summer, but will now likely have to spend bigger.

There is unlikely to be a shortage of buyers for the six men but Real could struggle to replace them.
The Copa del Rey won't define this season for Real but it might define their future.
