Burnley To Break Their Transfer Record To Replace Andre Gray

The Premier League side sold their top striker to Watford but now look to have wrapped up a deal to replace Andre Gray.

With each and every transfer this summer someone has exclaimed this is the deal that is just too far. In a window of seemingly everyone breaking their transfer record Burnley look to have finally joined the party.

Last summer was the hint that we could no longer consider what we felt to be a reasonable transfer fee was actually what was a reasonable transfer fee and this summer it's gone to whole new levels.

Of course Neymar's move blew everything out of the water but long before then we knew fees were going up and with that came everyone deciding which move they decided was 'too much'. Swansea wanting £50 million for Gylfi Sigurdsson got a lot of peoples' backs up, fortunately he went for only £45 million in the end.

Those heightened fees have seen lots of clubs breaking their personal records for money spent and it's been easier for clubs at the lower end to do that but so far Burnley haven't indulged.

However, according to the Mirror, it looks like that is about to change. The newspaper say that the Clarets have finally agreed an initial £15 million fee to sign striker Chris Wood from Leeds United.

The north-west side had made two previous bids for the 25 year-old New Zealander but Leeds were desperate to hang on to the player and even offered him a new three year deal with an improvement on his current wages.

Sean Dyche moved to try and sign Deportivo La Coruna's Romanian striker Florin Andone but once that bid was rejected he went back to his first choice to replace the departed Gray.

The Turf Moor faithful will be hoping that Wood can recreate his form from the Championship last season at the level up after the former Leicester player topped the scoring charts in England's second tier last term.

Wood played three times in the Premier League with West Brom as a teenager and then another seven games after helping to get Leicester promoted. He'll hope to shine on his first real stint in the league.
