Arsene Wenger Admits Interest In One Of Europe's Best Prospects

The Arsenal manager doesn't sound like he's preparing to leave with this target.

The Arsene Out brigade have seemed to be quieter recently. That's mainly because Piers Morgan, who is the entirety of the campaign outside of half of Arsenal TV, has been busy kissing Donald Trump's rear end. And it looks like Wenger seems to be staying put for a while yet.

Arsenal had been ticking along nicely until their loss to Watford on Tuesday night. That loss inevitably led to some fans blaming Wenger for the loss and demanding that he leave instantly.

Of course the Frenchman isn't going to leave just yet. His contract is once again up in the summer, as it was last season, and that has led to talk about when he might leave with it being 12 years since the 67 year old last won the title.

But would Wenger be eyeing up a move for an 18 year old rated as one of the best prospects in Europe if he was thinking of leaving any time soon? The Gunners' boss admitted that he was looking at Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe:

"We follow him, we know him very well, and he is developing well. He extended his contract with Monaco last season and so it's Monaco who is going to decide his future. He could be another Thierry Henry."

And Wenger really did lavish praise on the young Frenchman, furthering the comparison with Arsenal's all time top goalscorer saying, "He is not exactly Thierry Henry but it is true that he has similar qualities and the future and talent is similar.

"The potential is similar, after that if he has the same level of motivation, desire and intelligence that Thierry has, and the next two to three years will tell us that, then he can be very promising...He is a guy who is electric like Thierry was, can dribble, can pass and is efficient."

The teenager has scored six goals and put on seven assists for his teammates in 19 games this season and last season broke Henry's record as Monaco's youngest goalscorer.

The French under 19 has attracted a lot of interest from the big teams but signed a deal to keep him at Stade Louis II until 2019 and will have further chance to impress when Monaco take on Manchester City in the next round of the Champions League.

Wenger is planning for the future it seems, sorry Piers.
