Real Madrid planning three outrageous transfers for Xabi Alonso as Bayer Leverkusen move 'confirmed'

Carlo Ancelotti's side have endured mixed form so far this season

Real Madrid are plotting a summer transfer spree with three world-class players potentially set to arrive at the club, as well as a new manager.

Last term, Madrid secured a historic La Liga and Champions League double, with manager Carlo Ancelotti adding a record fifth European title to his record in the process.

Making history usually allows you to bide your time at most football clubs, but this is Real Madrid, and their constant pursuit of success does not allow for poor form.

Currently, Los Blancos sit second in La Liga, trailing league leaders and arch-rivals Barcelona by six points with a game in hand after Madrid’s fixture against Valencia was postponed due to flooding in eastern Spain.

In the Champions League, they have performed poorly, already sustaining shocking losses against Lille and AC Milan, which has seen them drop to 16th place in the 36-team group phase.

As a result, speculation regarding Ancelotti’s future has started to circulate.

According to reports from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, current Bayer Leverkusen manager and former Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has attracted interest from the 15-time European champions.

Alonso managed Leverkusen to an unbeaten Bundesliga title-winning season last term, the DFB-Pokal, as well as reaching the final of the Europa League – losing to Atalanta in the final.

The former Spain international has attracted interest from Manchester City, but the German club expect him to join Madrid if Ancelotti were to leave his role as manager.

Changes on the pitch are also likely, with the club linked with three world-class players.

According to Football Espana, the La Liga champions are thought to be interested in signing Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jonathan Tah, and Alphonso Davies - all on free transfers - as the trio are all out of contract at their current clubs this summer.

Madrid fans’ minds will be cast back to the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich last season when Davies scored a stunning right-footed strike at the Santiago Bernabeu before, in typical fashion, Madrid scored two late goals to send them through to the final.

Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with a move from Liverpool to Madrid for some time. A switch would make sense for Los Blancos as current first-choice right-back Dani Carvajal is out for the foreseeable future after sustaining a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) against Villarreal on October 5.

Tah would likely be a starter, with his case strengthened by the fact Madrid centre-back Eder Militao suffered a torn ACL in the 4-0 victory over Osasuna on November 9.

Madrid are short of central defenders with Ancelotti forced to use 21-year-old debutant Raul Asencio as Miltao’s replacement during the fixture.

At this point, the rumours have not been confirmed by the club.
