According to a report by The Sun, Watkins is admired by new Liverpool boss Arne Slot, and Aston Villa are braced for a bid from Liverpool.
Slot will be keen to make some key signings this summer, as he looks to put his own stamp on a side that has been under the management of Jurgen Klopp for so long.
The report states that the Reds have doubts over Darwin Nunez, who has recently been linked with a move away from Anfield to Barcelona.
Nunez has been under massive pressure at Liverpool in recent weeks, after being dropped from the starting 11 ever since their Merseyside derby defeat at Goodison.
Amid these rumours, Watkins has already made comment on a potential move away from Villa when he signed a deal until 2028 last season.
"I feel like this is the best place for me to play my football. I've still got a lot to achieve here," Watkins explained in October 2023.
