Mason Mount has been handed a career lifeline away from Manchester United from a club trying to complete the most ambitious transfer in their modern history.
Mount has underwhelmed at Old Trafford since arriving from Chelsea in a £55 million transfer in 2023.
The 27-year-old battled a string of injuries in his debut campaign, managing to find a brief spell of form under Ruben Amorim.
However, his exit and Michael Carrick's arrival, coupled with more injury issues, further derailed Mount's momentum. He's started 11 Premier League games this season, with his only start in 2026 coming in last weekend's 0-0 draw with Sunderland.

United's qualification for next season's Champions League will see Mount's already hefty wage rise even further, like the rest of the Red Devils squad. Per teamTALK, United are open to letting Mount leave this summer as they look to reshape their entire midfield.
The United hierarchy is aware that any move for Mount will likely be a loan, given his wages, with a permanent transfer in 2027 more likely.

Mount to be handed a career lifeline
Coventry City are among the clubs keen to take Mount on loan and give him some much-needed game time.
Managed by Frank Lampard, Coventry are gearing up for their first campaign back in the Premier League since 2000/2001. After finishing top of the Championship, significant funds will be provided for Lampard to bolster his squad.
Lampard worked with Mount at Derby County and Chelsea earlier in his career, even tipping him to become a mainstay in the England squad.
He told reporters back in 2019: "I’ve said it a lot last year. Being called up for his country, that’s hopefully going to come pretty soon.
"He can go absolutely to the top. I don’t want to heap expectation on him. But I will tell him that every day because I feel it, and when someone’s humble and hard-working like him, it doesn’t matter.
"You can tell them because it will never stop his drive or his hunger. He’s not a boy that wants the razzmatazz of it all."
United will already let Casemiro move on upon the expiry of his contract, while Manuel Ugarte is expected to be sold after failing to impress.
Among the names on United's shortlist for a midfield rebuild are Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali, Aurelien Tchouameni and Ederson.
