Marcus Rashford’s Barcelona Move Could Be 'Blocked' After Fresh Update

Marcus Rashford has impressed since moving to Barcelona.

There is reportedly a huge stumbling block that could prevent Marcus Rashford from making a permanent move to Barcelona.

During the summer transfer window, Rashford, 28, left Manchester United to join Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona after falling down Ruben Amorim's pecking order at Old Trafford.

Since moving to Spain, Rashford has impressed, having registered six goals and seven assists in 14 matches across all competitions.

On Sunday, the 28-year-old was on the scoresheet as he netted Barcelona's third goal during their 3-1 La Liga victory over Elche. Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres scored the other two goals, with Rafa Mir scoring for the visitors.

As a result of his fine form, it has been suggested that Barcelona are looking to make Rashford's loan deal permanent.

Barcelona boss, Hansi Flick, is said to be impressed with the Englishman's versatility and goal-scoring quality, with the club viewing Rashford as the long-term solution to the team's left-sided attack.

However, there is reportedly a big stumbling block that could ruin the move.

As reported by Caught Offside, Rashford's wages, which he agreed on when signing a new deal with United back in 2023, could prove to be a problem for Barcelona as the amount 'significantly exceeds Barcelona’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) limits'.

The report stated that the Catalan giants are looking to offer Rashford a long-term deal that would include a reduced base salary but would have performance-based bonuses and image rights incentives inserted.

It has been claimed that if Rashford agrees to lower his wage demands, a deal with United could be finalised as early as the winter transfer window.

However, aside from Barcelona, who are believed to be in pole position to sign Rashford, other clubs are also keeping tabs on the situation.

Clubs such as Paris Saint Germain, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Arsenal are all believed to be interested in the winger.

Rashford and Barcelona will be back in UEFA Champions League action this week when they take on Belgian side Club Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Wednesday night.
