Manchester United have made a 'serious' move for one of the biggest talents in Serie A, according to reports in Italy.

United's new head coach Ruben Amorim is looking to make his mark at Old Trafford after officially joining from Portuguese club Sporting earlier this month.

He got his first taste of competitive action with United on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Ipswich Town, a result which indicates the size of the task Amorim faces in transforming the club's fortunes this season.

The Red Devils are currently 12th in the Premier League, already 15 points behind league leaders Liverpool after just 12 games.

Amorim's predecessor Erik ten Hag spent more than £600m on new signings during his time as manager at United, leaving the Portuguese with a restricted transfer budget in January.

But that hasn't stopped the club targeting potential signings for the Portuguese.

Now, a sensational report in Italy claims United are lining up a move for Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Italian outlet Sportmediaset [via GetFootballNewsItaly] report that United are making a 'serious' move for the Georgia international, who has scored 30 goals and provided 28 assists in 103 games for Napoli.

Amorim is said to view him as a 'key target' for the inside forward role in his preferred 3-4-3 set-up.

Kvaratskhelia is out of contract in 2027 and Napoli are keen to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

The Serie A leaders are said to have offered him a €6m (£5.1m) contract to convince him to stay.

However, United are prepared to offer the player a €9m (£7.5m) deal, which Napoli would be unable to match.

The report adds that if Kvaratskhelia's future isn't resolved by the end of the season, Napoli could look to sell the winger – but a fee of around €100m (£83.4m) would be required to convince the Italian club to part ways.

Kvaratskhelia has scored five goals in 15 games this season to help Napoli to the top of Serie A, where they are one point clear of four teams – Atalanta, Inter, Fiorentina and Lazio.

Speaking last year, Kvaratskhelia's former Napoli teammate Victor Osimhen tipped the Georgian to challenge for the Ballon d'Or in the coming seasons.

"He's a great guy, I understood that immediately," said Osimhen.

"Everyone loves him in the dressing room, not only for what he does on the pitch but also for what he does off the pitch.

"I believe he can win the Ballon d'Or in the next few years, I hope he also brings many successes to Napoli."
