Manchester United 'submit €50m bid for Andreas Christensen' as Erik ten Hag eyes further signings

Manchester United 'submit €50m bid for Andreas Christensen' as Erik ten Hag eyes further signings

They've submitted a bid.

Manchester United have submitted a €50million (£42million) bid for Barcelona star Andreas Christensen, it has been claimed.

Last weekend United completed the £72million signing of Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta. The 20-year-old, who joined the Serie A side in 2022 and scored 10 goals in 34 appearances, moved to Old Trafford on a five-year contract.

Hojlund is Erik ten Hag's third summer signing after Mason Mount and Andre Onana, with the club having now turned their attention to Sofyan Amrabat as a priority.

Nevertheless, with United awaiting offers for Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly, the club are also reportedly keen to bolster the defence.

And according to Catalan publication El Nacional via Football 365 United have submitted a bid for former Chelsea star Christensen.

Man Utd interested in Christensen

El Nacional has claimed United have submitted a bid for Christensen, worth an initial €35million (£30million) plus €15million (£12million) in add-ons.

The 27-year-old has impressed at Barcelona since arriving from Chelsea last summer, having formed a stubborn centre-back partnership alongside Ronald Araujo.

Indeed, Barcelona kept a record-equaling 26 clean sheets last term to claim their first La Liga title in four years.

While Christensen's departure would be a considerable blow for Xavi Hernandez, Barcelona may be open to offloading the defender given their need to navigate Financial Fair Play rules.

For the third summer in succession, the Catalan giants are struggling to register new players and renew the contracts of existing stars.

The expected departures of Ousmane Dembele and Franck Kessie will help in these endeavours, and so would Christensen’s exit should he leave for Old Trafford.

On Monday it was widely reported that United were also interested in signing Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice as a replacement for Maguire.

Indeed, the England international was booed by supporters during United’s 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao in Dublin on Sunday, having gifted possession away ahead of the Spanish side’s opening goal.

The 30-year-old, who cost some £80million four years ago, was playing in a largely second-string XI, with United’s first-choice team having played a day earlier against Lens at Old Trafford.
