Manchester City are reportedly pursuing the signing of a current Premier League player who left the club in 2022.
With Pep Guardiola’s exit now confirmed, it will be a summer of transition for Man City, with former Chelsea and Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca expected to succeed the Spaniard at the Etihad ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.
Veterans John Stones and Bernardo Silva will also move on ahead of next season, leaving a void in both midfield and central defence.
Between now and the end of the summer transfer window on September 1, City will likely be linked with several players as Maresca looks to put his stamp on the squad.

Striker Erling Haaland, goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, midfielders Rodri and Rayan Cherki, as well as wingers Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo, will form the spine of the side, while a number of new faces may also arrive in east Manchester.
And one of the recruits could come from a fellow Premier League side.
Man City target Premier League star
As reported by Spanish outlet AS, Spurs right-back Pedro Porro is of interest to City despite the north Londoners attempting to initiate talks over a new deal which would see the full-back remain at the club until 2028.
City have reportedly made contact with Porro, with Spurs setting an asking price of £50 million for the 26-year-old Spain international.
Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi is keen to retain the player’s services and sees him as an important part of his squad ahead of next season.
AS reports: “Tottenham have held talks with the Spanish full-back to try and extend his contract beyond 2028, but so far they haven't managed to convince him, and now the situation has taken a new turn. Some haven't wasted any time. Manchester City, with recurring problems at right-back, have already initiated contact to try and secure a transfer, even before the World Cup begins. Both the player and Tottenham are aware of City's interest. The London club isn't giving up and doesn't want to lose one of the most important players in the squad. But at this point, a significant effort will be required. However, Spurs have already set a starting price: £50 million. Any club wanting to sign him this summer would have to pay just over €57 million.”
Of course, Porro was previously at City between 2019 and 2022 after signing from sister club Girona, although he failed to make a single first-team appearance before leaving for Sporting CP in 2022.
The right-back has made 152 appearances for Spurs, producing 13 goals and 26 assists, helping the side win the Europa League in 2025.
Porro reportedly earns £85,000 per week but would expect a significant pay rise if he were to join City this summer.
