Liverpool have reportedly identified a target in a key position as the Reds look to bring in Arne Slot’s first signing.

It has been a huge summer of change for Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp and a number of coaching staff left the club on the back of the 23/24 campaign.

Players such as Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip and Adrian San Miguel also departed upon the expiration of their contracts.

However, since new head coach Slot arrived, the playing squad has remained the same, with Liverpool now the only Premier League club yet to sign a new player.

With the new season fast approaching, it has now been claimed that there could be activity at Anfield.

As reported by The Athletic, Liverpool have now identified a target in the No.6 position.

The report stated: “It is worth keeping an eye on that situation this week, with Liverpool pursuing a specialist No 6 from outside of the Premier League.

“They have turned down bids for (Wataru) Endo this summer, in part because of the tricky market in that position, but are now moving ahead with a signing for that role.”

Japanese international Wataru Endo started against Real Betis but then found himself on the bench for matches against Arsenal and Manchester United.

Slot in turn opted to use the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch for the deeper midfield role.

So far, midfielders such as Martin Zubimendi, Joshua Kimmich, Ederson and Alan Varela have all been linked with a move to Anfield.

When asked about new signings after Liverpool’s win over United, Slot said: “I notice that you are focused a lot on new signings! I am focused on the tour, how we played, what we need to improve and what we did well.

“Like I said, the bar is really high for new signings because we have so many good players. It is not so easy to first find a player to meet those standards and then ask, ‘is he available?’.”

The Dutchman added: “Then we have to find an agreement with them, so it is not always easy to find a player who can help us but Richard is working hard on it and let’s see what comes from this.”
