Liverpool have reportedly made their second transfer U-turn less than 24 hours after their defeat by PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League.

On Wednesday night, Arne Slot gave fringe players and youngsters the chance to impress as they travelled to the Netherlands to take on PSV in Europe's premier club competition.

Despite falling to a 3-2 defeat, Liverpool managed to secure top spot in the first phase of the Champions League after Barcelona's 2-2 draw with Atalanta.

On the back of the defeat, it was revealed that Liverpool will now opt to keep young midfielder James McConnell at the club after he impressed Slot.

The 20-year-old was part of several youngsters who had been tipped to go out on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

However, Slot confirmed that McConnell will not be sent out and could be handed more first-team opportunities.

On Thursday morning, it was claimed that midfielder Stefan Bajcetic is set to have his loan deal with Red Bull Salzburg terminated, paving the way for him to join La Liga side Las Palmas for the rest of this season.

Bajcetic, 20, reunited with Jurgen Klopp's former assistant Pepijn Lijnders at Salzburg back in the summer but the Dutchman was sacked after a horrendous start to the campaign.

Despite that, Liverpool were reportedly happy with Bajcetic's loan and were fine with him staying with Salzburg.

However, as reported by The Athletic, Bajcetic became unsettled by his lack of minutes and is keen to move on.

As a result, Liverpool and Salzburg have now agreed to terminate Bajcetic's loan deal and the young Spaniard will instead move to Las Palmas, who are currently in 15th place in the La Liga table.

The report stated: "The midfielder effectively had a choice between Las Palmas and Porto, and he’s opted to link up with the former for the rest of the season.

"There was also interest from Getafe. The move is expected to be finalised by the weekend."

During his loan spell in Austria, it was reported that some members of Salzburg's squad were left bemused with Bajcetic's role.

Reports at the time stated that the Salzburg players were ‘astonished’ with their manager’s want to continually start Bobby Clark and Bajcetic alongside each other in the heart of midfield, according to the Austrian newspaper the Krone.
