What PSV Eindhoven players did in stoppage time against Liverpool during their Champions League clash has gone viral and it has divided fans.

Arne Slot rested the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson against PSV, having already booked their spot in the next round of the Champions League.

He fielded his second string and started 19-year-old Jayden Danns and 20-year-old James McConnell.

Liverpool took the lead twice but were beaten 3-2 on Wednesday.

Cody Gakpo opened the scoring from the spot before Johan Bakayoko levelled proceedings.

Harvey Elliott restored his side's lead before PSV hit back with two quick-fire goals.

Slot introduced more youngsters into the game, bringing on Amaro Nallo, who was shown a red card, Tyler Morton and Trey Nyoni.

Liverpool had a very youthful side towards the end of the Champions League tie, with PSV taking full advantage of their inexperienced opponents.

The PSV players were enjoying themselves and showboated as the clock ticked down.

But the actions of the PSV players divided fans on social media, with some hitting out at what they did considering the Liverpool side that was out on the pitch.

One X user wrote: "This is what football is about."

A second joked: "Well done they’re 13."

A third said: "Class this hahahaa."

A fourth added: "if that was Robbo instead of Tsimikas at 0:38 you would have seen the most vile, brutal foul in football history."

Another argued: "This is nasty work."

Liverpool's defeat to PSV was their first loss in this season's Champions League campaign.

Speaking after the game, Slot told the club's official website: "Like expected I think, eventful game with many goals. I think everybody expected that before the game, for two reasons maybe. One of the reasons I think [is] two managers who always want to press high, want to bring the ball out from the back.

"So sometimes you see then certain mistakes - but it’s always eventful. And for the other reason because both teams, maybe mainly ours, were not playing in the set-up that we usually do, so then you see in some moments that we defend in a way that probably is not expected if we play with all of our starters. But still in the end we were able to definitely make a game out of it, especially with all these youngsters on the pitch. So, 'eventful' would be my word to use."
