Liverpool are reportedly ready to step up their bid to bring in the first big signing of the Arne Slot era.

After replacing Jurgen Klopp in the summer, former AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord boss Slot has made a flying start to life at Anfield.

So far, Liverpool have only lost one match - a shock 1-0 home defeat against Nottingham Forest as they sit top of the table in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

With momentum clearly with the Reds, it has been claimed that the club's owners could bring in a marquee signing during the January transfer window.

As reported by French news outlet RMC, Liverpool are interested in Lyon's 21-year-old young star Rayan Cherki.

French broadcaster Matt Spiro wrote on social media: "Liverpool are stepping up their pursuit of Rayan Cherki. Arne Slot and the recruitment team all like the Lyon playmaker - #Liverpool could make an offer in January. Lyon want €30m but may well accept less (RMC)."

According to Foot Mercato, Lyon have set a price tag of at least £24.9 million with the hope that they could bring in as much as £29.1 million for the highly-rated Frenchman.

So far this season, Cherki has made 11 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice and assisting three goals.

Club president John Textor recently spoke about Cherki's future, he said: "We lost €15m from his sale last summer… but his value is now way higher.

"He should stay in January but it’s up to Rayan, he decides what he wants to do."

Liverpool will be back in action this weekend as they travel to the St. Mary's Stadium to take on Southampton in the Premier League.

After their meeting with the Saints, Liverpool will have two crucial fixtures in their bid for trophies this season as they take on Manchester City and Real Madrid within five days.
