Arsenal summer signing linked with shock permanent move after playing just 45 minutes for club

Mikel Arteta has been aiming to improve his Arsenal squad this summer to ensure the club can compete to defend its Premier League title and go one better in the Champions League, having lost the final to PSG last season.

This has seen the Gunners acquire Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United to strengthen their midfield, signing him for £75 million, as Christian Norgaard departed for Everton.

Arsenal have also signed Ezri Konsa to help the defence following William Saliba’s long-term injury that he sustained at the World Cup, while Christos Tzolis was signed as an improvement for Leandro Trossard, who departed for Besiktas.

However, one of the Gunners’ summer signings may be set to depart the club before the transfer window closes, after he played only 45 minutes for the club.

This game time came in the Emirates Cup as he featured in the second half of their defeat to Borussia Dortmund, when he replaced Kepa Arrizabalaga at half-time.

Illan Meslier joined Arsenal this summer on July 9, as he left Leeds United at the end of his contract on the first day of the same month.

Now, as per a report from Foot Mercato, Meslier could be set to leave the Emirates as he is a target for Olympique de Marseille, who have already lost their No.1 goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli this summer as he joined Manchester City.

Meslier may be interested in making this move to the South of France as he is believed to be the third-choice keeper at Arsenal, behind David Raya and Kepa.

The 26-year-old may believe that he could reignite his career at Marseille as Jeffrey De Lange, who started the French club’s opening game, may depart before the end of the window.

Meslier lost his place as Leeds’ No.1 last season, as he made no appearances in the Premier League, with Karl Darlow, who is now at Manchester United, and Lucas Perri splitting the 38 appearances of this league campaign between them.
