Harry Maguire 'demanded huge payment from Man Utd to join West Ham' as new figure revealed

Harry Maguire has demanded a huge payment.

Harry Maguire reportedly demanded a huge pay-off from Manchester United to join West Ham United with the prospective move now off, it has been claimed.

The England international’s £30million switch to the Hammers is reportedly off, despite David Moyes having pushed to sign the player.

Erik ten Hag took the captaincy off the 30-year-old last month before United accepted a bid from West Ham for him.

However, West Ham have pulled out of the deal after concern about the delay to Maguire’s move. The east London club have drawn up alternative targets in central defence.

Although Maguire had agreed to personal terms with West Ham, the transfer did not go through with the issue understood to relate to Maguire wanting a payoff from United.

Indeed, the centre-back received a considerable salary increase as a result of United qualifying for the Champions League and would reportedly be on less money at West Ham.

According to the Sun’s Neil Custis Maguire is demanding a £15million pay-off from United to join West Ham. Meanwhile, the Guardian claimed he wanted about £7million to leave Old Trafford.

And as per the latter publication, the lack of clarity led to concern at West Ham that Maguire was stalling and unsure of the move. Indeed, the club are now said to be looking into signing a quicker centre-back, with Bayer Leverkusen duo Jonathan Tah and Odilon Kossounou targeted.

Harry Maguire’s Man Utd future

Ahead of United’s 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, Ten Hag said Maguire would be better off leaving United if he is not confident enough to battle for a first-team spot.

Nevertheless, the Dutchman was adamant the defender could be an important part of his plans.

"He has the ability to be a top-class centre-back," said Ten Hag, via the BBC.

"He is the best for England so why shouldn't he be the best for us?

"But he has to prove it. When he is not confident enough to fight then he has to go, then he has to make a decision. But I'm happy with him."

Maguire did not play a single minute of United’s Premier League opener at Old Trafford.
