Harry Maguire has been made a promise by West Ham ahead of a prospective move to the club from Manchester United, it has been claimed.

According to the Evening Standard Maguire has indicated he is keen to join the Hammers if they can agree a fee with United.

West Ham made a £30million bid for the England international as they step up their transfer plans, having also agreed a £32million deal to sign Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez.

And Maguire is reportedly excited by the prospect of a move to the London Stadium, having started just eight Premier League games for the Old Trafford club last term.

Indeed, the 30-year-old is said to be aware that a lack of playing time under Erik ten Hag could threaten his England prospects ahead of Euro 2024 next summer.

West Ham ‘make Maguire promise’

According to ‘ex-West Ham employee’, (via West Ham transfers) Moyes has promised Maguire that he will become Hammers captain if he joins this summer.

Indeed, West Ham’s previous captain, Declan Rice, signed for Arsenal in a £105million deal earlier in the summer.

And Maguire, who was stripped of the United captaincy last month, has reportedly been given the opportunity to take the armband in east London.

According to Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy, Maguire could feasibly leave should United and West Ham compromise on a £35million fee.

She said: “There’s a lot more optimism on [West Ham’s] end of getting a deal for Harry Maguire over the line because their £30million bid for the defender is still under consideration by Manchester United.

“That club had valued him at around £40million but a compromise in the region of £35million could see a transfer happen. So West Ham and United are not so far off in terms of price points for Maguire.

“Erik ten Hag has made it clear he is happy to keep Maguire in the squad as part of his centre-back options, but the club do not want to be obstructive to him getting more minutes elsewhere. So talks are ongoing with West Ham. That is close.

“In terms of add ons you can see the compromise of £35million be easily reached.”
