Fabrizio Romano has outlined Harry Maguire’s transfer plan as his Manchester United future remains uncertain.

During the summer transfer window, it was widely reported that United were looking to offload Maguire after he was stripped of the captaincy by Erik ten Hag.

Premier League club West Ham United reportedly agreed a fee with the Old Trafford club but a move never materialised and Maguire stayed put.

Recently, the England international has had an upturn in fortunes after being named player of the match against Sheffield United before scoring a brilliant winner against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Now, transfer specialist Romano has given an update on Maguire’s future.

He said on his YouTube channel: “The feeling around Harry Maguire is now different. He is fighting for it, he wants to do his best for Manchester United.

“His future depends on the game time, for Maguire, it is crucial to play regular football looking ahead to the January transfer window.

“He wants to go to the Euros so for Maguire it is really important to play. If he will keep playing as he is doing now there is a chance for Maguire to stay at Manchester United at least until the end of the season.”

Romano continued: “Otherwise, if starting from November and December he returns to the bench, he will consider a January exit depending on the proposals.

“But I can guarantee to you, at the moment, the only focus for Harry Maguire is on Man United. He’s fighting for Man United, he wants to show his passion for Man United and numbers are showing how good he is doing recently.

“So, Maguire fighting for it, fighting for Manchester United. Now the situation looks different and also about the feelings of some fans about Harry Maguire. Waiting for the next weeks of course but the future could change for the January window.”

United boss Ten Hag praised Maguire after the match on Tuesday night.

He said: “He's playing much more proactively in possession, stepping in, passing vertically.

“He's defending on the front foot, defending forward, very confident in the duels, I think he is dominating in the right way with his aggression against opponents. You see he also gets rewarded. Of course, his heading is a skill... a very good finish.”
