Manchester United target Benjamin Sesko underlined his ability with a goal and two assists for Slovenia on Thursday - with scouts from top European clubs in attendance.

According to reports, United sent representatives to scout the former RB Salzburg star in March, prior to his completion of a move to the Bundesliga.

As per 90min, United watched Salzburg's 4-2 win over Rapid Vienna to cast their eye over Sesko, who had already signed a five-year contract to join Leipzig until 2028.

But there was an unusual element to move, as per ESPN, with another club effectively able to 'buy out' the German club if they offered a higher sum to Salzburg. Sesko, who has been dubbed the 'next Erling Haaland' by Football Transfers, eventually completed his move on July 1.

That meant the move didn't happen for Erik ten Hag's side, who eventually opted to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta. The Danish forward has been getting up to full fitness during the current international break with a cameo against San Marino.

Sesko, meanwhile, put in a fine display for Slovenia with one goal and two assists against Northern Ireland - and there was a significant detail behind the fixture.

According to Fabrizio Romano, scouts from five European clubs were in attendance to watch Sesko's performance against Michael O'Neill's side.

He wrote on Twitter: "Benjamin Sesko has been fantastic for Slovenia with two assists and one goal vs Northern Ireland yesterday - told it happened in front of scouts from five top European clubs.

"Sesko has also scored his first two goals as RB Leipzig player last week."

If United - if they were one of the clubs in attendance - want to follow the model of bringing RB Leipzig players to the Premier League, they would be following in the footsteps of Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Liverpool activated the release clause to sign midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai at the beginning of the transfer window.

City, meanwhile, signed Croatia defender Josko Gvardiol, while Chelsea completed a deal for France forward Christopher Nkunku before the window opened.
