Arsenal plot move for 'fantastic' Ivan Toney alternative who could save the club millions

Arsenal plot move for 'fantastic' Ivan Toney alternative who could save the club millions

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney

Arsenal are reportedly targeting an alternative to Brentford striker Ivan Toney who could save the club millions.

Toney is currently banned by the Football Association after breaching betting rules.

With the striker set to return to the sport in January, he has been linked with a move away from the Gtech Community Stadium.

The likes of Arsenal and Chelsea have since been linked with the 27-year-old.

However, according to The Times, the Gunners could be priced out of a move for Toney, with Brentford set to ask for at least £80 million to part ways with their talisman.

Instead, Arsenal are reportedly looking at Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez as an alternative.

Since the start of last season, Gimenez has scored 34 goals for the Dutch side and has since been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Feyenoord icon Mario Been recently leaped praise on Gimenez.

As per GOAL, He said to ESPN: “Gimenez truly is fantastic.

“He hadn't even touched the ball before his first goal, but that was a fantastic finish. Feyenoord have immense goalscoring prowess.”

If Arsenal are to go in for Toney, it has been reported that they would have to sell a number of fringe players to raise funds.

The likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson are the names being picked out for a potential exit.

Speaking about Smith Rowe, Arteta recently said: “He is incredibly popular. We all love him.

“It’s no different what the people feel and what we feel about him, but one thing is to be there, the other one is to start and then once you start, you are consistent to stay there and you have to stay fit as well.”

He added: “Obviously we speak with our players & we try to explain the reason why we make certain decisions, but he’s clear on what he needs to do – which is performing on the pitch and giving the best to win games for us.”
