Borja Mayoral stats compared to Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah amid Arsenal links, there's a clear winner

Arsenal could sign a new striker.

Arsenal are interested in signing Getafe striker Borja Mayoral in January, according to reports.

The Spanish forward, formerly of Real Madrid and Roma, has scored 12 La Liga goals this season for Jose Bordalas' side.

The Sun claimed on Wednesday that Mayoral had been the subject of a £22 million bid from Arsenal, although HITC report Getafe have yet to receive any bid for the forward despite the Gunners' interest.

Mikel Arteta's side are seemingly in the market for a centre forward in January, despite the Spanish boss appearing to indicate that permanent signings may not be an option until the club sells players.

If a deal can be brokered for Mayoral, though, he would come considerably cheaper than a player like Ivan Toney, who Brentford value at £100 million amid heavy links to Arsenal.

With that in mind, we've compared Mayoral to Arsenal's existing strikers, Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, using Squawka's Comparison Matrix - and there is a clear standout performer.

It must be noted that Mayoral has played considerably more minutes than both Jesus and Nketiah this season, so the below stats are based on numbers per 90 minutes of playing time.

The Spaniard's conversion rate percentages and attacking numbers are, on the whole, notably higher than Arsenal's existing strikeforce.

Take a look at the attacking stats of the trio below.

Mayoral's conversion rate is nearly 25 per cent higher than second-placed Nketiah's, while he has comfortably more goals per game than both players. He is level with Nketiah on non-penalty goals.

Mayoral also has a higher shot accuracy percentage than Jesus and Nketiah, and has fewer shots off target - although Jesus wins the battle when it comes to shots blocked and shots on target.

One area which goes against Mayoral, though, is his passing and build-up play - which may indicate Arteta is keen to sign a different profile of striker.

Jesus wins most of the metrics in this area, although the Spanish forward does rank well for long passes and successful long pass accuracy.

And while Jesus is again stronger when it comes to ground duels, there is no doubt over who has been more proficient in the air this season - again indicating the Gunners' desire to bring in a different type of centre forward.

With nearly three weeks of the transfer window remaining, it may well be a good idea for the Gunners to consider signing Mayoral, who has experience in several European leagues working under the likes of Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane.
