The most dramatic 90+ minute goals in Premier League history

There is nothing more dramatic than a 90th minute winner and arguably the most dramatic moment in Premier League history

There is nothing more dramatic than a 90th minute winner and arguably the most dramatic moment in Premier League history came when Sergio Aguero scored in the dying seconds to win Man City the title in 2012.

To celebrate Betfair’s 90 minute payout, we’ve looked at some other dramatic last-minute winners in recent Premier League history. See how many you remember.

Betfair’s 90 minute payout means winning bets on their Match Odds 90 market will be paid out in full at 90 minutes, regardless of the full time result. That’s right, no matter what happens after the 90 minutes is up, if your bet is a winner, you’ll be paid out meaning these incredibly dramatic goals would not have affected your bet negatively.

Steven Bergwijn vs Leicester 2022

Scoring one 90th minute goal to change the course of the game is dramatic enough, but scoring twice just takes it to a whole new level. With Spurs 2-1 down away at Leicester as the clock ticked over 90 minutes a positive result for the North London side looked unlikely.

Step forward substitute Steven Bergwijn. The Dutchman drilled the ball past a sprawling Kasper Schmiechel to equalise in the 95th minute. However, rather than celebrating his goal like most players would, the forward grabbed the ball and ran back to the centre spot. The dramatic turnaround was completed in the 97th minute as Harry Kane played through Bergwijn who rounded the keeper and won Spurs the game.

Alisson vs West Brom 2021

The unlikeliest goalscorer in this article goes to Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson. Towards the end of the 2020/21 season, Liverpool were in a race for top-four football with Leicester and Chelsea occupying the final two attainable Champions League spots.

To the shock of many, Liverpool went 1-0 down away at the Baggies through a Hal Robson-Kanu goal. A Mo Salah strike levelled things up in the first half, but they were unable to capitalise on the momentum of the goal. That was, however, until the Reds won a corner in the sixth minute of injury time. Alisson was given the green light to join the attack knowing his side needed a goal. Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered the corner and Alisson glanced the header past his opposite number Sam Johnstone in the West Brom net as the Liverpool players went wild.

Stuart Dallas vs Man City 2021

Winning at the Etihad is hard enough against arguably one of the greatest teams the Premier League has ever seen, but winning there with 10 men? That’s something special

Against all odds, Leeds took the lead just before half-time through Stuart Dallas, however the Yorkshire side didn’t go into the break all smiles due to Liam Cooper’s red card. Ferran Torres equalised for the Citizens with 15 minutes to go. With current form and Leeds down to 10 men, fans could only see this going one way. However, Dallas had other plans and in the first minute of stoppage time, the Irishman latched on to a through ball by Ezgjan Alioski and sent a shot past Ederson. The impossible result was completed.

Manuel Lanzini vs Tottenham 2020

One of the first fixtures West Ham fans look for in the calendar is against London rivals Spurs. However this excitement may have been dampened when they saw their team go into half-time 3-0 down away at Tottenham in 2020.

With time running out, Fabien Balbuena managed to get one back for the Hammers in the 82nd minute. When Davinson Sanchez put in his own net with five minutes to go, West Ham fans were starting to dream of a potential comeback. With 94 minutes on the clock, an absolute thunderstrike from Manuel Lanzini outside the box flew past Hugo Lloris in the Tottenham goal and completed the comeback. Imagine if you had backed Spurs to win from the start only for them to throw away a three-goal lead

Bruno Fernandes vs Brighton 2020

The most controversial 90th minute winner came at the Amex as Man United snatched a dramatic 3-2 win over Brighton. With the game at 2-2 in the dying embers of the game, referee Chris Kavanagh blew the full-time whistle to signal the game was over. However, it wasn’t.

A few moments before the final whistle was blown, Man Utd had claimed that Neal Maupay had handled the ball in the penalty area. The referee waived the claims away and the game ended. However, VAR told Kavanagh to take a look at the footage which resulted in him bringing the players back on to the pitch so that Man Utd could be awarded the penalty. Bruno Fernandes made no mistake from the spot in the 100th minute and the Red Devils completed a controversial win.

Divock Origi vs Everton 2018

Divock Origi amongst Liverpool and football fans in general is known for scoring some clutch goals and this was no different. In a Merseyside derby where Liverpool needed the win to put the pressure on table-topping Man City, the game looked to be heading for a scoreless draw.

In the 96th minute, a Virgil van Dijk scuffed shot goes up in the air and what would be a routine take for Jordan Pickford is fumbled on to the crossbar. That man Origi runs in to the head the ball into the empty net go keep Liverpool’s dream alive

Federico Macheda vs Aston Villa 2009

With Man United and Liverpool locked in a battle at the top of the Premier League, dropping points was something that either team simply could not do. Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov were out and with Carlos Tevez returning from an international break, 17-year-old Macheda sat on the United bench.

With the score locked at 2-2 in the final moments, the teenager’s superstar moment arrived. With one beautiful turn just inside the box and a delicious curling effort past the keeper, Macheda was on the back pages of all newspapers that week.

Aaron Lennon vs Arsenal - 2008

Another dramatic derby day goal, this time from North London. In the 88th minute of a pulsating game, the Gunners almost had the game won at 4-2. That was until Jermaine Jenas increased the nerves of the Arsenal faithful by making the game 4-3.

With Spurs pushing forward, a Luka Modric shot from outside the box beat Manuel Almunia and came crashing off the post. The first player to react was Aaron Lennon who slotted the ball away to send the Tottenham fans delirious, making it a North London derby they’ll never forget.

With Betfair’s 90 minute payout on football singles and accumulators for all customers, you’ll never have to worry about a dramatic 90+ minute goal ruining your bet again.
