Maybe all managers should apologise to fans after big losses.

Grimsby Town manager Marcus Bignot made an emotional pitchside apology to the club's fans after their 5-0 humiliation at the hands of Crewe Alexandra yesterday.

Grimsby were dismantled by a ruthless Crewe side, who peppered the away team's goal on 16 occasions throughout the 90 minutes.

Despite the shocking result, Grimsby remain just six points outside of the playoff places and are eight points ahead of Crewe in the League Two table.

However, Bignot refused to rest on his laurels and held his hands up as he approached the club's fans, after 720 of them made the 292-mile round trip to watch their team get thrashed.

Initially it looked like there might be some ill feeling between the manager and the fans:

The fans in the video were clearly appreciative of Bignot for his honesty - a refreshing thing to see from a manager in today's game.

However, it's hard to imagine the fans will remain as patient and as supportive if Grimsby can't get back to winning ways when they travel to Newport on Valentine's Day.

It seemed like an anomaly of a result with Crewe previously battling against relegation.

Should managers always apologise to fans for bad performances? We certainly think so!
